“Sri Lankan pride” is the theme for the tenth anniversary celebration of the Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) when aspiring fashion designers,diploma and advanced diploma students of the Institute unveil their collections. The grand fashion show followed by an after party will be held on July 29 at the Hilton Colombo.
The designs are inspired by the national bird, national flower, stone carvings, masks, Kandyan dancers, endemic birds like the Blue magpie and many more.
LIFT- launched in 2000 is affiliated to the University of Northampton in the UK and Robert Gordon University, Scotland. Its courses include fashion design, textiles for fashion and fashion accessory design.
For the first time, the fashion show would display a collection of shoes and handbags made of rexine and other fabrics – promoting the concept of saying ‘no’ to animal skin products.
Over 30 designers will showcase their collections which will be modelled by top Sri Lankan and Indian models including Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2008 Aruni Rajapakse and Miss India for Miss Universe 2008 Simran Kayur. Ramzi Rahaman will be the official hair dresser for the evening
The show will be inaugurated by Hemant Trivedi, one of India’s leading designers, Delia Heneghan, International Director of the University of Northampton UK and Kim Eason, the head of the fashion and textiles division at Robert Gordon University, Scotland.
