A complete visual documentary on Kataragama- the Holy Land of All Faiths produced by well-known producer, Ranjith K. Perera was released at the last festival at Kataragama.
Based on an extensive study and script written by Ven. Dr. Aluthwewa Soratha Thero, this is the first and only visual documentary released on DVD format on the sacred city of Kataragama.

The documentary is directed and the screenplay is written by experienced filmmaker and teledrama director, Christy Shelton Fernando and has a detailed visual direction uncovering the historical importance of Kataragama, its ritual carried out by Buddhists Kapuralas and Hindu priests and the Muslim mosque making Kataragama a place for all major religions. The DVD also features the several major festivals in Kataragama and other religiously and historically important places like ‘Kiri Vehera’ and ‘Wedasiti Kande’.
“Kataragama is a unique place of worship. Although there are Hindu deities, all the rituals are conducted by Buddhists Kapuralas different to an ordinary ‘kovil’” said Ranjith K. Perera, the producer who has to undergo severe hardship to put out the first ever DVD on Kataragama.
Narrated by renowned announcer, Arun Dias Bandaranayake, the DVD has also been dubbed in Tamil and Sinhala languages.
Earlier producer Ranjith K. Perera released four documentaries on Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa and Galle, four UNESCO World Heritage Sites under the titles ‘Ancient city of Sigiriya’, ‘Polonnaruwa’, ‘Golden Temple of Dambulla’ and ‘Old Town of Galle’.
The two documentaries ‘Ancient city of Sigiriya’, and ‘Golden Temple of Dambulla’ have been selected to represent Sri Lanka at the main section of 21st International Festival of Archaeological Films. The festival from October 4 to 9 is held at the Civic Museum of Rovereto, Italy.
The four documentary films with each duration between 45 to 60 minutes with complete and comprehensive information on each site are dubbed in Sinhala and English for telecasting in Sri Lankan television and international television channels and they are to be available in the latest DVD format with subtitles in French, German, Italian, Japanese etc.
