The Association of Professional Bankers (APB) will help showcase Sri Lanka as the next financial hub with their annual convention to be inaugurated next Thursday, officials said. "The theme for this year’s convention is, ‘Gear Up…. Sri Lanka – Next Financial Hub’. This, we feel is topical and reflects the role that banks in Sri Lanka are expected to play in realizing a longstanding dream of becoming a regional financial hub in the present context with peace and political stability being established,” Dimantha Seneviratne, President APB told the Business Times.
He said the inaugural session will see President of Asian Banker, Emmanuel Daniel as the Guest of Honour with Nivard Cabraal, Governor Central Bank as the chief guest. Other highlights include the presentation of Awards for “Outstanding Contributions to the Banking Industry” and the presentation of the Anniversary Volume containing a collection of very educative and informative articles on topics related to the convention theme contributed by eminent personalities, he added.
He noted that the APB continuously strives to improve the professional standards of bankers in the country. “More recently we have partnered with the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka to recognise events conducted by APB such as Evening Lecture Programmes, Seminars and the Annual Conventions under their Continuous Professional Development programme.”
APB is the premier professional body for bankers in Sri Lanka, with a membership of nearly 900 bankers, including CEOs and members of Senior Management of banks.
The main objectives of the Association are to improve the professional standards of the Bankers and facilitate studies in the field of banking, organize training events, promote and safeguard common interests of the profession and to promote fellowship and understanding among its members. |
