MAS Fabric Park (MFP) in Thulhiriya was almost an abandoned property since 2003. It was started as State owned Thulhiriya Textile Mill in 1968 and later was privatized to Bombay Dyne in 1980 and later to Kabool Lanka in 1980 till 2003.
This 165 acre green commercial property was rescued by MAS Holdings to set up Lanka’s first green fabric park.
MAS Fabric Park offers enterprise solutions for Human Resources and Administration functions for its clients who are within the Fabric Park in order to facilitate the investors with hassle-free manufacturing process, focusing on to their core business activities.
Since 2006, eight companies have set up factories in connecting with fabric intensive. MFP has three specific components which includes the Industrial Park as a business hub, MAS Institute of Management Technology(MIMT) to train people in the Apparel and IT sector and “Thirasaragama” where people who are employed in the Park live. MFP provides accommodation for all employees in the form of dormitories and villas.
Thirasaragama is complete with healthcare and sports facilities ‘MAS facilitates the investors and our project consist of industrial sector and the residential leisure sector. The Park has 53 chalets utilized by the staff of the previous companies. The leisure sector has acquired seven chalets for leisure based activities’ explained Michael Jayawardana, the project coordinator of the MAS Fabric Park.
The residential villas of the MAS Fabric Park have been specially designed and furnished by some of the country’s niche architects and decorators. These houses are in harmony with the natural splendor and serenity in the area.
This project is called ‘Thirasara Leisure Village’.
It has seven luxury chalets consisting of four units of four bedroom chalets, three units of three bedroom chalets and two units of two bedroom chalets with all facilities such as living area, fully equipped kitchen, cable TV, attached bathrooms with all amenities.
The park is committed to eco-sustainability, retaining its competitiveness, providing some of the key environmentally progressive processes to ensure minimal disruption to the natural habitat and the eco-system.
The motto of the ‘Thirasara Leisure Village’ is ‘sustainable development in eco - socio environment’ and it is in par with UN Environmental Program declared sustainable development decade Global Compact -UNESCAP’ explained Michael.
The main training unit of the Park is the main service provider for the guests at the chalets. Restaurant facilities, recreation facilities, sports and outdoor adventure based conveniences. ‘Thirasara Leisure Village’ is located in Thulhiriya just 65 kms from the capital Colombo of main Kurunegala road. It is centrally located , where the guests can visit, Dambulla, Anuradhapura or Kandy and hill country.
‘Apart from traditional cricket, football, rugby and basketball, the guests can involve with mountain climbing, trekking, biking and bird watching as well’ Jayawardana added.
The nearby Ma Oya provides the facilities for kayaking, boating, rafting and many water based sports facilities. MAS Fabric Park has joined hands with ‘Boarderlands’ for these adventure sports.
This is a family based leisure centre and we always promote families to use these facilities. Our residential Training Center facilitates training through MAS Institute of Management & Technology, .is widely used by the Corporate sector, NGOs and Schools to develop outbound and stress management activities to their member staffs.’ Michael said.
