‘How to make films?’ Workshops for young and aspiring Tamil speaking filmmakers will be conducted in Northern and Eastern parts of the country by award winning filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage and experienced cinematographer, M. D. Mahindapala.
Following the screening of the Tamil version of Prasanna Vithanage’s ‘Akasa Kusum’ (Flowers of the Sky), the project will be started basing Jaffna, Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Colombo. The Tamil script tittled ‘Aghaya Pookkal’ translated by Ravi Rathnavel will be screened in Colombo and Jaffna.
Prasanna Vithanage is now in the North and the Eastern region searching locations to conduct workshop. “Our attempt is to promote the Tamil film industry by creating Tamil filmmakers,” Prasanna Vithanage said.
“When we talk about Sri Lankan film industry, it is predominantly Sinhala films but there is a massive market for Tamil films. It is essential that the heart beat of the Tamil community is captured cinematically,” Vithanage described. There are already number of Tamil speaking filmmakers who have made short films in Sri Lanka.
During the two-day film workshop scheduled to be started on October 31 the young filmmakers will be taught how to make short films with digital cameras. While aspiring filmmakers in Northern and Eastern parts can join the workshops at centres in Jaffna, Trincomalee and Batticaloa, those youngsters in Colombo and suburbs will be able to join the work shop in Colombo.
