Plant and machinery at Lanka Walltile (LWL) PLC’s which closed factory at Balangoda will be relocated to its subsidiary, Lanka Tiles PLC Tiles) Meepe factory, officials said. “We closed this factory after the workers accepted a voluntary retirement scheme and we plan to sell things like the kiln,” Mahendra Jayasekara, Managing Director LWL told the Business Times.
He said they will sell the property, but a decision with regard to this will be taken after about a year.
Meanwhile, the 19-day strike over wage demands at Lanka Tiles PLC (LTP) ended on Monday after a mutual agreement was reached between unions and the management. Mr. Jayasekara said that the LTP management improved on the salary offer made while the workers had come down on the demands made. |
