DSS ride on Savin knock in high scoring draw

Opener Savin Cyril was the hero of DSS in the high scoring drawn Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter against S. Thomas’ concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday.

Savin’s knock of 111 helped DSS who were resuming from their overnight score of 73 for no loss to make a bold reply of 379 for 6 in reply to the Thomians 302 for 2 declared which they made on day one. Savin’s knock comprised 14 boundaries and a six and he was well supported by opening partner Akila Weerasinghe, Thusith Silva, Lasitha Abeyratne and Heshan Perera.

Savin along with Akila gave his side a flying start putting on 88 and then he followed it up with a 137 runs stand for the third wicket with Thusith Silva who made fine 77. Later in the innings Lasitha Abeyratne and Heshan Perera who both cracked half tons added salt to the wound with the pair putting on an invaluable 87 runs stand for the fifth wicket.

The opening day’s proceedings belonged to Nuwan Kavinda who continued his batting form when he cracked 94 which had 16 boundaries. He along with Brian Dharmasena were associated in an 85 runs stand for the second wicket.

This was followed by useful knocks coming later in the innings from Neomal Wickremasekera and Asiri Wickremanayake enabling the Thomians to amass 302 for 9 before declaring.
