A strong mindset is one of the most vital requirements for athletes participating in International competition, according to President of Sri Lanka Tennis, Maxwell de Silva.
Mr. de Silva voiced these views while briefing the media about the work of Australians Jeffrey Hodges, a performance consultant and Ken Banks, a former rugby player, who both left the country last week after teaching local athletes various mental exercises and strategies to adopt prior or during competition.
The two men spent five days working with several National Olympic Committee (NOC) athletes and coaches from a range of sports. These sportsmen, including Sri Lanka’s top golfer Mithun Perera, were all presented with certificates at the briefing.
Ken Banks, who is originally from Zimbabwe, presented England Cricket Coach Andy Flower as a perfect example of how intelligence, more than any amount of quality physical preparation, is vital in sport,” Andy came from a country lacking in sporting resources but went on to become the coach of the country that invented the game of cricket”. |
