Annual Madhu Ganga Open Troll with Ceylon Sea Anglers' Club

The fifth annual Madu Ganga Trolling Competition for the Ceylon Sea Anglers’ Club Barramundi Classic Trophy will be held at Gangabada Asiriya, Customs Road, Balapitiya, on October 10. This year, the CSAC expects competitors from overseas, a first for CSAC club events. The event will start at 7 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. at Gangabada Asiriya.

Madu Ganga is one of the favourite haunts of anglers who especially enjoy light tackle trolling with the usual catch being the signature Barramundi (modha), Mangrove Jack (thambalaya), Trevally (paraw) and other estuary species. Located 75 km south of Colombo off the Galle Road, Madu Ganga (Balapitiya) is a two and half hour drive and is a picture book setting for enthusiasts whether angling, boating, bird watching with the various island hops by boat from Gangabada Asiriya.

Established in 1934, the Ceylon Sea Anglers’ Club is the oldest resident angling club in the country. Along with other clubs set up in a bygone era, it boasts a long and distinguished heritage. Since the club has been without a home since April 2009, the proceeds from this event will help build its financial reserves, for the construction of a new club house and chalets at Kuchchaveli. Exciting prizes have been financed by the Ceylon Sea Anglers’ Club for this event along with the Barramunda Cassic Trophy for the winner of the competition.

First prize: Heaviest Fish (2 Kgs Min) –Shimano Calcutta B baitcasting Reel 400BSV and CSAC Barramundi Classic trophy Second prize: 2nd Heaviest Fish (2 Kg min) –Abu Garcia Ambassadeur C3 reel Third prize: 3rd Heaviest Fish (2 Kg Min) - Abu Garcia Ambassadeur C4 reel

CSAC believes that promoting such trolling events will promote lucrative game fishing tourism for Sri Lanka, which is very popular in Thailand, Malaysia and India (Andaman and Nicobar Islands)
