The Sri Lanka Army is to share, with foreign defence personnel, its experience gained during the fight against Tiger guerrillas during a seminar which will be hosted in Colombo next year, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya said yesterday.
The second convocation for award of Diplomas to 43 serving officers at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) at Diyatalawa, took place yesterday with the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya as the Chief Guest. Here an officer receives his diploma from the Army Chief. |
Addressing a news conference in Diyatalawa, after attending the Sri Lanka Military Academy convocation, Lt. Gen Jayasuriya said a three-day seminar will be held in May or August when around 100 representatives will be invited from countries which had suffered from terrorism.
He said the Defence Ministry has given approval for holding the seminar.
He said that it is hoped to share with these representatives some of the strategies used during the war with the LTTE such as the use of intelligence services, gathering of information from the public for the purpose and measures taken to prevent the resurgence of guerilla activity.
Military spokesman Ubaya Medawala told the Sunday Times that military officers currently involved in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan too have been invited to take part in the seminar.
He said that officers who were in charge of divisions in the war against the LTTE will be addressing the seminar.
He said invitations will be extended to countries through their Colombo-based diplomatic missions. |
