British Council Sri Lanka supports Sri Lankan students to obtain a world-class UK qualification in the UK by promoting HE and FE institutions. The Education UK in the British Council not only helps students to select a programme of their choice, but also helps students with selecting a suitable UK institution, accommodation, provides visa guidance and also prepares you to face the UK culture.
London Metropolitan University works closely with the British Council Sri Lanka to provide assistance to the potential students interested in studying in London. It is the largest single University in London and one of the largest in UK, with over 32,000 students including over 7,000 international students from over 150 countries. We have over 100 students from Sri Lanka studying at the University.
London Met offers a wide ranging curriculum with over 280 undergraduate courses and over 200 postgraduate courses and 60 areas of PhD research. It is particularly known for business, economics, computer science, law, electronics, polymer engineering, architecture, design, psychology and life science, but all areas have good graduation and employment records, and there is a strong link between the University and the wider world of business, government and the arts. No wonder the University boasts "485 Courses: Infinite Opportunities"
We recognise major professional qualifications such as CIM, ACCA, CIMA, ABE and NCC for credit transfer in to relevant degrees. All Sri Lankan students will be given a £1,000 bursary to study at London Metropolitan University. We do offer merit scholarships to undergraduate students.
London Metropolitan University has announced that two outstanding female graduates from Sri Lanka will be offered full scholarships to study their Master's at the University from February 2011. The two winners are Piyumi Hettiarachchi, who wins a full scholarship for her MBA, and Nadeeka Rajakaruna, who wins a scholarship for her Master's in Biomedical Science. Piyumi wins the coveted London Met International Students House scholarship, and was the only winner this session against strong international competition.
These two winners come on top of last year's Sri Lankan scholarship winners, Sangeetha Seneviratne-Agalakotuwa and Upekshani Navaratnan. All four of the recent scholarship winners have an excellent academic background coupled with real drive and commitment.
Mark Bickerton, International Director of London Metropolitan University, said "It is great to see such talent coming out of Sri Lanka, and it's an honour to be able to award scholarships to these amazing and inspirational women."
