The “burka”, the dress worn by Afghan women completely covering them, and “bondage” referring to a technique which binds Japanese women submissively are the focus of a new modern dance theatre performance “BurkaBondage” by German choreographer Helena Waldmann.
The production presented by the Goethe-Institut is a representative realization of some current trends in modern dance. It goes on the boards of the Navarangahala hall, Royal College on December 10 at 7 p.m. The two dancers performing on an elaborately designed stage are accentuated by live video art and percussion.
Prior to the performance there will be a discussion with Helena Waldmann within the framework of the dance forum on December 9 at 5.30 pm at the Goethe Hall (German Cultural Institut). Here the Berlin-based director and choreographer will discuss developments in German dance theatre, her approach as a choreographer, and the background of her production “BurkaBondage”.
Tickets priced at Rs.1000 and Rs 750 are available at the Goethe-Institut (German Cultural Centre). |
