A preview to the SLMUN Conference 2011

Someone goes to swim in the deep ocean and reaches the next shore. “He is a genius”, we say. The other goes to swim in the deep ocean and drowsiness. “He is crazy”, we say. Most of us just sit soundly on the shore around a camp fire, singi ng and watching others daring their lives with confidence.

Why do we not take a chance and feel the depth of life? If there is any one who wants to breakaway and take a chance to challenge your life for a new crack of dawn, here is the blast! It is the Sri Lanka Model United Nations.

The Sri Lanka Model United Nations Association was established in 2008. The purpose of SLMUN is to raise awareness among students on the raging international issues and enable them to voice solutions merging their views through debating, deliberating and consulting for those problems by taking on roles as diplomats.

It is continuously supported by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Ministry of Education of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

The SLMUN conference 2010 under the theme; “One World”, was developed up to 10 committees and held at Water’s Edge. Futuristic Security Council was the feature under the lime light of the year’s conference. It was really an experience to cherish.

Nevertheless buckle up this year to soak a new façade of SLMUN! The 2011 conference will approach you through out the 8th, 9th and 10th of August with anticipated student participation over 1050 in amount plus the staff of 100 students.

There will be the committees; GA 1(Disarmament of International Security), GA 2 (Economic and financial committee), GA 3 (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee), ECOSOC 1(Committee on Narcotic Drugs), ECOSOC 2 (Human Rights), ECOSOC 3 (UNESCO), ECOSOC 4 (Inter Governmental Panel for Climatic Change), SPEC 1 (International Court of Justice), SPEC 2 (Security Council), SPEC 3 (Futuristic Security Council). The highlighted factors of SLMUN 2011 are the new supplementary Regional Bodies; SAARC and European Union.

It is expected that the student delegates with their charged minds will tense up the SLMUN conference with their bone chilling debates, the most extraordinary resolutions and their extravagant formality this year too. SLMUN is also packed with high spirits, laughter, new interactions, patching up of acquaintances, dashing fashions and et-cetera!

Allons, allons! Brace yourselves to get your feet wet to discover a new coast born out of flourishing diplomacy. SLMUN is your shore. Bon Chance!
