The Hejaazites excel at athletics

The Hejaazites took to the field like Gladiators in an arena of challenge with dedication and perseverance at the recently held annual track and field meet. The two schools, the Boys’ Section and the Girls’ Section of Hejaaz International had their meets on two separate days in Colombo.

The Boys’ Section showed their enthusiasm and tenacity in all events and especially at the gymnastic drill parade. Their performance was as good as any large event one would watch on television. The execution of this event was perfect. The credit goes to the coach, Mr. Thusitha Nanayakkara, who worked tirelessly to get the boys into proper synchronization.

The marching parade was akin to any ceremonial march of the Armed Forces. It was a pride to see the boys in full attention and in correct posture marching to the band music. The large gathering of parents was a source of encouragement to the students. They were spellbound as the events unfolded on the field in quick succession. Many promising athletes were spotted among the senior students.

The Girl’s School did not fall in the shadow either, as they too showed how to execute any event on the field to absolute perfection and satisfaction of the spectators, which comprised only of ladies. The disciplined effort taken in completing an event of competition shows the inbuilt dedication and discipline inculcated into the young minds of the students by the school.

In both meets the Thabari House emerged victorious, giving the other houses a very hard time keeping up. The narrow margin between the winning house and the runner-up brought out the competitive spirit in the boys and the girls. Credit also goes to Ms. Shazra Fouz and Ms. Shazina Fouz who were responsible in getting the gymnastic drill parade to perfection for the girls.

The coaches Mr. Prasad Ranasinghe of the boys’ school, Mrs. Padma Gamachchi of the girls’ school and the staff of the school have worked tirelessly and have given their whole hearted effort to make this annual meeting a success.

Gracing the event with their distinguished presence as Chief Guests was the Cultural Counselor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr. Mehdi G. Rokni for the Boys School and Madam Maram Al-Agha, the wife of the Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Sri Lanka, for the Girls School.

In the recent past Hejaaz International School has shown promising talent not only in the track and field but also in the academic arena as well.
