The Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association organized “Rally 2011”; a walk, a launch and a day of friendship on Saturday April 9, 2011 at the Galle Face Green. Over 3,000 Little Friends, Girl Guides, Senior Guides and Guide Leaders representing all nine provinces of
Sri Lanka participated at the “Rally 2011”. The day proceeded with a walk which included a parade of decorated vehicles.
A noteworthy event of the day was the all new website of the Sri Lanka
Girl Guides being launched by the
honorary Chief Guest, the first lady, Madam Shiranthi Rajapaksa. This
interactive website will be a forefront
in connecting Sri Lanka Girl Guides with the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts world over. The local association also embraced social networking with the site being linked to their own Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Colourful and
practical new uniforms were launched at “Rally 2011”, while a selection of the uniforms of the past were also modelled by the Guides. An updated programme, is hoped to bring in a fresh new spin into current assessments and key learning points during the Girl Guide course.
It specially focuses on building
competent and confident leaders, teaching essential life skills training and giving young women the
opportunity to develop into their
fullest potential. |
