It’s being billed as a first in Sri Lankan television. “Put a Chat With Auntie Netta” is a talk show that pairs well known Sri Lanka personalities with the most unlikely of interviewers. Nimmi Harasgama’s Auntie Netta has made her popular on the web where a series of youtube videos has established Netta as the aunty of aunties. In collaboration with her longtime friend and television producer Heshani Sothiraj Eddleston, Nimmi is bringing Netta to local audiences.
For ETV, who held a launch party for the show on May 10, Auntie Netta represents the new range of original content they hope to produce. It’s going to be less about re-runs of American Idol and more about unique content created for local audiences. A new comedy show with Indu Dharmasena is in the offing, and will join other ETV programmes like ‘Culinary Journeys with Darshan’ and ‘Ashok Ferrey Show on ETV.’ In the meantime, Auntie Netta’s premiere featured Auntie Netta in conversation with Hi! Magazine Editor Shyamalee Tudawe. Both ‘Auntie’ and Heshani have returned to the U.K, but are expected back in Sri Lanka toward December. Just in time, we hope, to film the second season of the chat show.
The show premiered on ETV on May 10 and will be aired on Tuesdays at 8 – 9 p.m., Thursdays at 10:30 – 11 p.m., Fridays at 10 – 11 a.m. and Saturdays at 9 – 10p.m.
