Ministers to lobby NAM support

Senior Ministers will join External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris to lobby Non Aligned Foreign Ministers against the UN Advisory Panel’s report. It will take place when Foreign Ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement hold a two-day meeting in the Indonesian resort island of Bali from May 25 to 27.

Among those in the Sri Lanka delegation will be Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva, Dinesh Gunawardena, John Seneviratne and parliamentarian Sajin Vaas Gunawardena. The government is also making detailed preparations to counter any resolutions if they are moved at the UN Human Rights Council sessions that begin in Geneva on May 31.

Plantation Industries Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe will lead the Sri Lanka delegation to the UNHRC in Geneva. It will include Attorney-General Mohan Peiris and other officials who will serve as resource persons.

The Sri Lanka delegation to Geneva will not make any official reference to the UN Panel report in their interactions except to call it the “Darusman Report”.
