D.S. Senanayake Colombo 7 to implant a solar project

D.S. Senanayake College Colombo 7 will utilise solar power to supply electricity to the primary sector of the school. The New Building opened by the Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena at the primary sector of the school on April 28 will be supplied with solar power very soon with the commissioning of the solar power plant.

D.S. Senanayake College will be the first state school in the island to utilize solar power. The project which is costing over rupees 25 million is funded by the OBA and the School Development Society. The objective of using solar power is to cut down on the consumption of electricity in the school.

Since the consumption of electricity in urban schools is high, we have to develop strategies to obtain alternative power to function the activities of the school. This is part of the Carbon Neutral Project which has been developed to give a green environment to the children of the primary sector of the school.

Many stages of the Carbon Neutral project have been completed to give the primary sector of the school a "GO GREEN CULTURE".
