To enjoy this unforgettable day, the Funday Times Club Members had to send in completed jigsaw puzzles and thirty winners were selected for the workshop.
The workshop was held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on
March 19 at 9.30 a.m., and was focused on World Water Day and the International Year of Forests. The thirty club members were greeted by the Funday Times Staff with a Funday Times cap.
The children were then divided into three groups of red, yellow and blue. Coloured ribbons were tied on their wrists and Uncle Gamini, the Village Headman took the children for a tour around Nuga Gama.
After the tour there were many
fun activities. First they had a
questionnaire with the information cards hanging on trees and the
children were seen running around gathering information. It was real fun and a group of ten winners were
chosen.
There was another activity called ‘Animal Tracking’. Three of each group at a time were given two to three minutes to go around
Nuga Gama and find the animal’s
footprints, identify the animals and be back as soon as the whistle was blown. Finally, the leader had to go round. The red group won the first prize and the yellow group and blue won consolation prizes.
The final activity was recycling paper. The children were given a sheet of old magazine paper and the apparatus to do and complete it at home. Every child loved this.
After the
activities the
children were led to mouth watering and delicious village food, kiribath, imbul kiribath, roti with lunumiris, kaludodol, kokis and pol toffee, which they really enjoyed. A little while later a tooting sound was heard and children shouting hey, wow… It’s the ice-cream maama
tooting his horn, and all ran to him.
The children enjoyed the time spent and it finished at around
12 noon with many things to carry home. Finally the children gave a special thanks to the Funday Times Team and the Cinnamon Grand Hotel Team for their efforts in letting them have this unforgettable day.
