One day our teacher told us they have organized a trip for Grade 11 students. It was March 11, 2011.
All the Grade 11 students arrived at the school before 2.30 a.m. There were five buses. Our class teacher and many other teachers attended the trip to guide us. We had
breakfast in the bus.
The bus arrived in Kandy at about 6 a.m. We first visited Dalada Maligawa and then Victoria dam. Then we went to Randenigala but our bus was broken so we got off the bus. All started dancing and singing in the sanctuary.
After the trouble was fixed, we arrived at Randenigala dam. It was very beautiful. Then we went to Sorabora Lake. It was very
beautiful. We had lunch feeling the soft breeze of Soraborawewa.
At 4.15 p.m., we arrived at Dambana. Our tribesmen still live in Dambana. We visited the Tribesmen’s museum. Then we saw Kakula’s dancing. It was great. Dambana was the most interesting place in this journey.
Then we arrived at Mahiyangana temple. It was very beautiful. We had to start the journey back to school. In the bus we danced and sang songs. We had dinner in Rantambe. Then we arrived at school at 3 a.m., on March 12.
The trip was a great experience in my life.

From the world, Sri Lanka is
special for me because it is my
motherland. Sri Lanka is the most beautiful island in the continent of Asia. It is called the ‘Pearl of the Indian Ocean’. It is surrounded by the Indian Ocean.
There are about 18 million people in Sri Lanka. It is the home of main ethnic groups who are of different religious faiths.
The President of Sri Lanka is
Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa and there are two hundred and twenty-five members in our Parliament.
My country has a good climate. Therefore, many foreigners visit
Sri Lanka. There are many
beautiful places and historical places in Sri Lanka. There are beautiful coral gardens, national parks, bird sanctuaries, beautiful beaches,
natural harbours, beautiful waterfalls, rainforests, botanical gardens etc.
There are many historical places in Sri Lanka. They are Anuradhapura, Yapahuwa, Dambadeniya, Sigiriya and Maligawila etc.
I am very proud to be a citizen of Sri Lanka. I wish my country to be beautiful, friendly and peaceful.

Vesak is a religious festival. It is celebrated by Buddhists all over the world. Vesak is a full moon poya day in the month of May.
Buddha was born on a Vesak day. His parents were King Suddodana and Queen Mahamaya. His name was Siddhartha. He attained
enlightenment on a Vesak day.
He attained Parinibbana on a Vesak day.
People decorate their houses with colourful lanterns. This is a very
special festival to the Buddhists.
We go to the temple and observe sil and give alms to the monks and give things to the poor on this day.
We make lanterns and pandals to
demonstrate Jataka stories.
British Council Kandy

British Council is a very good place for children like us. There are various kinds of membership cards
available for each one. Young Learners membership card is for children aged between 6 to 15 years.
There are so many
workshops such as Drama Club, Space Hop, the Reading Challenge, which we had last year. As I read six books I got so many presents like a pencil, fridge magnet, stickers etc. I also participated in Drama Club and also performed as a child in Trinity College hall. The drama was named
Pied Piper.
We can build up our knowledge by reading more and more books. We can use the internet too. There are English courses available at B.C. The London exams are also done by the B.C. Examination Centre. I am sad that I am not doing any exams through B.C., because I am doing local exams, but my sister does her exams through B.C. because she does London exams.
British Council is a place where I like to stay even from morning to evening. I am a member of B.C. for two years now. I love B.C. forever.
