SLRFU forges deal with oil giant

Caltex Lubricants signed for a further 3 years agreement to run the Inter Club League and Knock Out Tournament with Sri Lanka Rugby Foot Ball Union (SLRFU). This was announced at a media briefing by Chief Executive of Caltex Lubraints Kishu Gomes held at Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union headquarters recently.

Kishu speaking to the Media said “For the last 12 years (since 1999) we have spent more than 400 Million we are one of the longest serving sponsors in Sri Lankan sports. Rugby is only behind cricket in terms of popularity in the island we decided to extend our assistance for another 3 years amidst the struggles" said Gomes.

2011 Caltex Lubricants Inter Club Sesaon will kick off on June 3 with the game between CH&FC and CR&FC at Maitland Crescent. This years competition will see 8 teams locking horns in the top division. After the first round four teams will play in the top division and the rest in the bottom division tournament. The Knock tournament will kick off in early September and will be played in neutral venues. Kandy’s game will be played at Bogambara Stadium while the Colombo games at Royal Sports Complex. The points system will be same as Asian Five Nations Tournament with 5 points will be awarded for a win, 3 Points for a draw and losing within 7 points will get 1 point.

Two foreign players (one forward and one back) will be allowed for lower ranked teams such as Police SC, Army, CH & FC and Havelocks SC. Further the organizers will recognize the photographers by introducing a monthly competition for the beat pictures which comes out in the weekly press.
