Many leading sports personalities such Sri Lanka cricket skipper T.M. Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardena and Damayanthi Darsha have pledged their support as Journey Ambassadors for the ‘TRIAL: A journey from Dondra to Point Pedro’ with the hope of raising 2 million US Dollars to build a pediatric cancer ward for the Jaffna General Hospital.

The Trial will begin on July 1 from the southernmost point of Dondra (Devinuwara) to reach Point Pedro in the Northern tip of the island – a distance of 670km in a span of 24 days.Trial will travel a distance of 25-30 km each day and will be open to the public of Sri Lanka. Volunteers of the walk can join for either a 3 day period, a single day or through a city or town. Volunteers can also walk the complete distance. Speaking on the importance of the walk, a Trustee of the Colours of Courage Trust and Group Director of MAS Holdings Dian Gomes said, “We are coming together as one country, devoid of any divisions to raise the money. People from different parts of SriLanka, from different ethnic and social backgrounds will come together to make this project successful. That in itself is also a remarkable achievement.”
Present at the launch of the Trial amongst others were Aravinda de Silva, one time chief selector of Sri Lanka Cricket and Sarinda Unamboowe, an initiator of Trial, who said: “This initiative fills a vital missing piece in the country’s National Healthcare Infrastructre. We are committed to enhance the cancer treatment facilities in Sri Lanka and this walk will build the awareness of funding for it.”
