June is the month in which we celebrate Poson. What is the
importance of Poson?
We know that King Devanampiyatissa and Emperor Asoka of India were friends. They were pen-pals.
King Devanampiyatissa sent a
delegation with several gifts to India. The delegation had Prince Maha Aritta as the leader. The delegation spent about five months in India. When they arrived back, they brought with them precious ornaments that a coronation required, as a gift.
A message was also sent. It said: “I have surrendered myself to the Triple Gem. Oh my friend, you too submit yourself to the Triple Gem.”
As a result of this message, Emperor Asoka sent a mission to preach Buddhism in Sri Lanka.
It is said that King Tissa was
hunting in the forest when Mihindu Thera arrived at Mihintale and called out, “Tissa! Tissa!” Surprised at this, the king looked around and saw many monks gathered on the rock.
“Who are you?” inquired the king.
“We are disciples of Lord Buddha.” Arahat Mihindu then asked
several questions from the king. According to the answers given by the king, Arahat Mihindu preached the “Chula Hatthipadhopana Suthraya.”
By listening to this, the king and almost all the people gathered there surrendered themselves to the Triple Gem.
What I like to do in my free time
By Amaani Sourjah (7 years),

I like visiting my grandma’s
beautiful house in Ekala which has many fruit trees. I like reading
storybooks and the Funday Times because it has interesting articles
and beautiful pictures to see.
I also like going to the park with my parents and my little sister on Sundays because my parents are also free on that day. I wait to be free to play with my cute baby sister and with my friends. I mostly love tracing and drawing Disney characters like Cinderella, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Hello Kitty with Marie and Winnie the Pooh and his friends. Sometimes I like watching cartoons.
An interesting hobby

My hobby is collecting stamps.
My mother gave me lots of stamps that she collected when she was small. So, I have developed my stamp
collection.
A stamp collector is called a Philatelist. Collecting stamps is one of the many ways to spend our free time usefully. The first stamp to be issued was the Penny Black. England issued this stamp on May 1, 1840.
We can group stamps in many ways. We can arrange them
according to the country. But you can also group them according to the following headings, birds, animals, flowers, Olympic Games, National Heroes and so on. Stamps are
different in shape too.
The most
common shapes are rectangular and square. But some are diamond and circular in shape. Some stamps are made of cloth.
When I have more that one stamp, I exchange them with my friends. I am careful not to damage the stamps. Some stamps are worth a lot of money. One day I hope to have a big collection of stamps.

She is a bright teacher
She is a strict teacher
She is nice
And always wise
She is forward
But not backward
She is simple
And always humble
She teaches well
But doesn’t yell
She is a guiding light
Who makes our future bright
I am grateful to her
I am thankful to her
May God watch over my teacher
May God Bless my
teacher
My trip to Singapore

I went to Singapore.
In Singapore was my dad’s graduation. I went to the Underwater World. I saw sharks and sting-rays. We also saw a sea-lion show and a dolphin show.
The next day, I went to the theme park. I went on the rollercoaster. I was scared when I went on the rollercoaster because it went too fast. I went on the paddle boat. That was fun.
