GCE lessons on DVDs

Here is a rare opportunity for GCE O’ Level students to revise their subjects with the help of DVDs. The DVDs contain lessons taught by qualified teachers in government schools handpicked by the Ministry of Education for their specialised skills.

These are lessons taught over Learn TV – the educational channel run by the Dharmavahini Foundation in association with the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Branch of the Ministry of Education.

Thirteen Sinhala medium subjects that are taught in Year 10 & 11 are available at cost, making the price of the DVDs affordable to many. Twenty 45- minute lessons are included in a single DVD.

“They are being given at cost to enable the students to make full use of the valuable lessons taught by qualified teachers in government schools who have been picked by the Ministry of Education specially to appear in Learn TV programmes,” says Venerable Mettavihari, head of the Dharmavahini Foundation.

He added that anyone who purchases the DVDs is free to copy and redistribute it since the objective is to help as many students as possible. The DVDs are available at the Foundation studio at 8, Kalinga Place off Jawatta Road, Colombo 5. Details can be obtained by telephoning 011 5666588.

Forty teachers were picked by the Ministry to conduct these lessons in a classroom environment and the programmes have been telecast on LearnTV for the past two years. The lessons are based on the syllabuses formulated and approved by the Ministry.

The Dharmavahini Foundation is engaged in the promotion of educational activities in addition to the propagation of the Dhamma through electronic media. The educational programme for the GCE O’ Level students is being done under a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ministry.
