Java Lane fight back to hold New Youngs

A brilliant goal during extra time by Nizam Nagur helped Java Lane fight back to a 1-1 draw in their Dialog Champions League football match against New Youngs played at the Albert F. Pieris Stadium in Wennappuwa yesterday. Java Lane playing hosts to the refurbished club in Wennappuwa were put on the defensive from the opening minute and found New Youngs their success in the 10th minute. Striker Roshan Fernando powerful kick put New Youngs, featuring many youngsters from Joseph Vaz College in Wennappuwa, in front by 1 goal to nothing.

They maintained the lead midway and right throughout the end after the turnaround thwarting attempts by Java Lane strikers for an equalizer. The match went until the dead end in favour of the home team until Nagur turned tables to penetrate and stun the hosts with a striking goal to finish the game by 1-all. The matches of Nandimithra vs Police SC and Renowned SC vs Navy SC which were scheduled to be played yesterday were rescheduled for September 7 (Wednesday) owing the demise of former national player H.M. Mahinda Palitha. Palitha also coached Nandimithra and Navy SC and according to football officials both teams had made a written request to postpone their matches in honour of their former coach.
