This, That and Everything

The students of Stage Door-headed by Vinod Senadheera- believe that a performance worth going for is one that has a little bit of everything; in other words, a show featuring ‘This, That and Everything,’ to be held on September 18 at the Punchi Theatre.

A culmination of everything that takes place during a typical day at Stage Door, the production is directed by Vinod Senadheera, with musical direction by Shanon Jacob and production handled by Marlon Jesudason all three of whom are the founder members of Stage Door and who run all its activities.

In January, Stage Door opened its doors students who have a passion for creativity and the performing arts. The sessions conducted at the school promise to allow children and adults to expand on their creativity and talent while learning all technical aspects of the trade- from writing, acting, movement, song and music.

The focus lies in stimulating the imagination while developing self confidence, language and cooperative working skills.

“The show is all about what Stage door is,” reflects Vinod. It is a place where one cultivates their talent without the pressure of exams. However those who wish to enroll for exams are trained for the local and Trinity College- London exams.

The seniors perform two inspirational poems, a performance titled “Selected” and a one act
comedy. The juniors will be dramatizing animal poetry and song together with a play depicting
characters from nursery rhymes; and the Intermediate Group brings to life an Indian Play.

At Stage Door, students encouraged to take up directing, and the seniors have been rehearsing
with the juniors and polishing up their acts. The songs for the production have been carefully selected
by its Music Director, Shanon Jacob, to suit the genre of the play and more so, to suit the ages of the
children, so that they could relate to the songs. The students will be accompanied on drums performed
by the students of Stage Door, who have been trained by their in –house drum instructor, Jude
Theagarajah.

Entrance is by program; and programs are available at Stage Door, at 20 Taxilla Place, Kirulapana, Colombo 6.
