e-Channelling has dental tourism, 2 leisure portals lined up

By Duruthu Edirimuni Chandrasekera

e-Channelling PLC, the centralized doctors’ appointment booking system, is trying to reach regional patients through dental tourism while gearing to launch two leisure web portals, officials said.
"We are hoping to go global through medical tourism and as an initial step we will immediately go into dental tourism, which will be the stepping stone into this field," Ruwan Silva, Director e-Channelling told the Business Times.

Elaborating, he said e-Channelling will dedicate a place in its portal for dental surgeons conducting private practice. "This site will be part of e-Channelling and it'll give great exposure to dentists," he explained. He said that dentistry charges are quite high in places such as Singapore and Hong Kong and the company will target patients from these places.

"It's cheaper for them to visit Sri Lanka and attend to their dental needs and spend a holiday as well" he said, adding that e-Channelling will cater to the travel needs associated with such regional patients through its leisure websites. Mr. Silva said that they have almost launched ECL Hotels, which is also a hotel reservation website linked to e-Channelling, using e-Channelling's customer base.

"We’re targeting the mid – end hotel segment through this portal,” he noted. Mr. Silva explained that e-Channelling is a global product where patients can channel doctors from any part of the world and that ECL Hotels will strive to facilitate their travel arrangements, hotel bookings, etc.

Mr. Silva said that e-Channelling's hotel reservations system, HotelRoomNet will target local hotels to manage their rooms. Explaining the concept, HotelRoomNet CEO Asmina Aziz told the Business Times that they aim to grant a platform to such hotels to manage their rooms. "Many of these hotels don't have a web presence and we are aiming to give them a property management system," she noted, adding that this is an infrastructure requirement, which will further uplift the currently burgeoning hotel industry.
