The newest outfit to bang into action in the local music scene, ‘BeatBox’ will be celebrating their first anniversary on 20 October.
The BeatBox , led by versatile singer Corrine Almeida, was launched on the 20 October last year , with the anticipation of fulfilling the requirement of dance bands in the scene.
‘We had a very successful year and I think we managed to reach our targets up to some extent. We had only one change during the period. We have to get a new bassist as Vipula has other commitments’ said Corrine.
The band consists of seven members lead by singing sensation Corrine Almeida along with her brother Kevin on guitar and keyboards. The rest of the BeatBox comprises of Nadeesha Fernando on drums, Dishan Peiris on bass guitar, M. Sheriff on guitar, Sanjeeva Uyanahewa and Anton Fernando on keyboards.
‘BeatBox is my dream band. I was really determined to start this band with my brother Kevin. Finally it got off the ground and we are now going strong in the field of dances and get-togethers’ she explained.
‘BeatBox’ was in action at the very first Army Dance on last Saturday.
We were very excited about the whole thing, because it happened after 30 years. I have to thank Major General Piyal Abeysekara, who was responsible for this historic project’ added Corrine.
The historic Army dance took place at the Exhibition and Convention Center along with Army band, ‘BeatBox’ and a DJ in action.
‘This year we played at few good dances and more are on the cards for the season. CR& FC, Sampath Bank, Singer, Brandix, Lion Brewery and Coyle are a few to mention. We have already being confirmed for December 31st night at the Colombo Swimming Club’ she said.
‘All members are working hard and all are good vocalists. They work together to bring out a diverse range of singing talent’ she added.Corrine & The BeatBox boasts a musical repertoire of songs such as country, blues, pop, soul, funk, retro and modern contemporary.
October Breeze at MLH
Come, feel and enjoy ‘October Breeze’ at the Grand Ballroom Mount Lavinia Hotel on Saturday, October 22, when the Moratuwa Branch of the Sri Lanka Housewives Association treat you with a well compiled ‘Coffee Morning’ starting from 9.00 am.

Arresting dance recitals by Himali Siriwardena and exciting Latin American performances by Kevin Nugara’s team will be well worth watching.
Rozanne Dias’ latest creations in casual wear and saree drapes will be fascinating too.
‘Multilac’ will glow the ballroom with a novel presentation of fashion paints to blend with the outfits of the models that parade.
Of the several demonstrations lined up Unilever’s will be overhelming followed by hair care by ‘Abba’.

Viva Elvis is the soundtrack remix album of the Cirque du Soleil show Viva Elvis, which focuses on the life and music of Elvis Presley. The CD tracks are rearranged and extended versions of songs heard in the show, and in fact the album includes two instrumental versions of the songs “Memories” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, neither of which is in the Cirque du Soleil show.
