Mr. K. Anton Perera, the principal of St. Nicholas' International College Negombo passed away on the 1st of September 2011. This day happened to be the opening day of school for the new academic year 2011/2012 and it is with many grievances that the whole of St. Nicholas' International College commenced this year.
Throughout the course of 8 long years, it was our dear principal, late Mr. K. Anton Perera who built the school from the scrap of a small house to massive buildings towering in the Negombo area. It was under his leadership that the school flourished from a minor 56 students and a few teachers to over 1500 students and 100 staff members in both the junior and senior sections of the school.
At the sight of his steadfast figure, admiration and respect instantly filled our minds. He commanded absolute respect and had the unique ability to handle even the most difficult of situations. All those who came to his presence were calmed by his polite speech and etiquette which he passed on to the students by initiating a subject known as social graces. It was this great act that earned the school a reputation on the remarkable discipline that was instilled in each and every student who learnt the subject under him.
Moreover, he was a father to us all. His door was eternally open to those who needed his help and advice and never did he settle for second-best. He faced many obstacles to bring the school to the standard that it is known for island-wide; as a school that produced world class results at the May/June session of the Cambridge International examinations 2011. It would have been the experience of a lifetime to see him celebrate this great achievement.
Nevertheless, the immense task of creating a warehouse of education that is among the best in the world within a short period of 8 years inscribes Mr. K. Anton Perera as a legendary figure in the chronicles of education.
May God Bless him.
