With a scoreless full time dragging the final of the Dialog International Schools Under-19 football challenge tournament to penalty shootouts, Colombo International School (CIS) clinched the championship by 4-3 at CR & FC ground in Longdon Place a fortnight ago.
After a grueling encounter in the final between CIS and Gateway International, where both teams played well but couldn't find the net during the full time of play the former had all the luck to walk out as winners. Both teams had enough chances to score but their forwards lacked direction as both goalkeepers did their jobs in perfect order.
Referee Prashanth Rajakrishna was compelled to apply the penalty tie breaker rule as CIS took the upper hand to win the 10th version of the championship.
12 leading international schools participated in which is the only of its kind for the footballers who lack competition in the local arena.
The Dialog Golden Boot award went to C.
Park of the victorious CIS while the Gateway custodian bagged the Golden Gloves awarded for the best goalkeeper.
