Staff changes as Cinnamon Grand prepares for tourism boom

New appointments in the senior management structure have been made at the 5-star Cinnamon Grand hotel as it prepares for impending tourism boom, the company said.“The changes are strategic and founded on our end goals and targets for the short, medium and longer terms,” explained General Manager Rohan Karr in a media statement. “We have shifted our focus from a top down approach, to take into account the changing macro landscape, the global brands coming into the country and the increase in tourist arrivals, all of which will require focused leadership and strategic direction, to continue the innovative, creative and pioneering mindset within our team.”

Under these changes, Jayamal Dias, 32 years, takes over as Director of Sales and Marketing, a position earlier held by Chris Quyn who takes up a position as Director - Rooms Division. Mr Quyn’s career began as an Amenity Steward at the Ceylon Inter-continental nearly four decades ago. He has worked his way up the ladder to bell boy, concierge, reception, lobby manager and into management. Former Director Rooms Division Terrence Fernando takes up a position as Manager Operations. Affable PR Manager Tharika Goonathilake moves into a position of Manager Marketing Communications & Sustainability enabling her to pursue her passion for the environment, the company said. The two head chefs at Cinnamon Grand have also received new appointments. Executive Chef Rajith Morugama becomes Director of Catering while Chef Chaminda Liyanage has been appointed as Executive Chef.
