Sri Lanka has three German language partner schools:
Royal College, Colombo, Musaeus College, Colombo and Jennings International School, Wennappuwa. Each school has about 100 – 150 students in the German language
programme.
The ‘Schools: Partners for the Future’ (PASCH)
initiative was launched by the German Foreign Ministry in 2008.
It aims to build up a
worldwide network of over 1000 partner schools to
create opportunities for young people to learn about
modern-day Germany.
The website of the PASCH Initiative (http://www.pasch-net.de/ in German language only) offers multimedia content for teachers and students to improve their German language skills and information on international German language competitions.
Strokes of Pastel at British Council Kandy
Providing an
opportunity for 70 children to bring their artistic skills to the fore, the British Council in Kandy organised an art workshop in
partnership with local colour-product company, ‘Homerun PAS’.
Mr. Kingsley Gunathilake, an
internationally renowned painter who hails from the historic city of Kandy itself, conducted the pastel art workshop and provided guidance to the
enthusiastic kids. Enjoying this rare opportunity, the children let their
imagination run wild,
leaving the British Council Kandy staff with very
creative and
innovative illustrations.
At the end of the session, the ten best illustrations were selected and Homerun PAS awarded gifts to the winners and commended them on a job well done.
All participants received
certificates of participation from the British Council.
