The interact district 3220 came together to spread the joy of Christmas on a musical note, with the ‘Lights of December’ – a Christmas musical that graced the month with joy and happiness. The musical was a brilliant show of voices in harmony. Choir performances by Asian International School, Good Shepherd Convent, Royal College, St. Benedict’s College and St. Joseph’s college took the audiences in to a night of musical bliss, bringing out the true spirit of Christmas.
A highlight of the night was the performance by the dancers from Hemalatha Kala Ashramanaya, a vocational training centre for kids with down’s syndrome. The dancers tugged at the heartstrings of everybody present and gave room for thought on what the joy of Christmas is really about. Also performing the ‘Lights of December’ were the revelations choir who are renowned for the musical excellence over the years.
“Christmas is always associated with songs and serenity and this is exactly what we hoped to bring out”, says the committee of the Interact District 3220. “‘Interact ‘is one of the most powerful forms of social service as it demands interaction with various people in our community as well as others and allows personal development”. Interflash is traditionally a concert that features Sri Lanka’s upcoming bands and soloists. However this year the Interactors organized a Christmas Show – “Lights of December”, keeping to the spirit of the season.
The choral performances were backed by beautiful lighting effects and really did stand out as class acts. An array of Christmas classics were sung by the choristers to please the audience that was present.
The main aim of the show was to raise funds for the Thalassemia eradication projects. Thalassemia is a blood disorder passed down through families which the body makes an abnormal form of haemoglobin. The disorder results in excessive destruction of red blood cells, which leads to anaemia. This is a serious condition prevalent in Sri Lanka with the number affected steadily rising.
“As Interactors, we take pride in our community service. Through the monies raised through Interflash, we hope to help in our own way to eradicate Thalassemia from our country”, the committee mentioned.
All in all the ‘Lights of December’ helped light up smiles on all those who were present and will eventually help in the eradication of Thalassemia. A night that reiterated the true spirit of Christmas. |
