Complete the Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) in 8 months and enter Top Universities in Australia, UK, New Zealand and Malaysia.
The month of December evoke mixed emotions amongst thousands of students who sat for the Local A/L examinations in August 2011. Because, it is these two months always known for the final outcome of their A/L examinations for which they worked hard for 2 years.
In some families, the atmosphere is one of jubilation as proud parents celebrate the success of their children who has securing their place in degrees such as Medicine and Engineering in local universities. However, for many more families, there is a sense of gloom as their child has been unsuccessful at the A/Ls, or in some cases, not being able to attend their desired university course due to insufficient Z-score. What do these thousands of students do? Some plan to re-sit their A/Ls, while others seek out private education providers in the hope of finding a course they are interested in, yet there are some courses which are not available in Sri Lanka. Some students give up education completely in despair and enter into the workforce where they are unable to secure competitive salaries and benefits due the fact of not possessing a university degree.
Unfortunately many students and parents are not aware of an ideal alternative pathway to make their dreams come true.
The Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) programme offered by Monash College Sri Lanka is designed as an academic bridge between a student’s highest academic qualification and their preferred destination degree at Monash University. Successful completion of the MUFY programme with the required grades ensures that the student will enter into their Monash degree of choice.
As a member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight universities and recognized internationally as being amongst the Top 100 universities in the world*, Monash University has made it’s mark as a university of high standards for quality and a degree from Monash is a student’s first step towards career success. Offering nearly 800 programmes from 10 specialized Faculties, with campuses in Australia, Malaysia and South Africa and the option to commence some degrees locally at Monash College, a Sri Lankan student is provided a range of opportunities with Monash.
MUFY is equivalent to A/Levels and Australian Year 12 and allows admission to any Australian University and into the full range of undergraduate degrees at Monash. MUFY is also accepted by some of the top universities in the UK Malaysia and New Zealand.
Whether you are planning for a career in Medicine, Business, Information Technology, Engineering, Science, or the arts, the MUFY programme’s flexible format enables students to tailor their study for the degree of their choice. The teaching methods and continuous internal assessments offered to students emulate the academic style followed at university.
“The MUFY syllabus is designed for university study and I found the course structure to be a more effective way of learning and overall, I enjoyed my studies at ANC” says Nishara who is currently pursuing her degree in Medical Bioscience at Monash University Malaysia. It is a qualification that is equivalent to A/Levels and is simply another pathway for a student to enter an international university.
“The curriculum in MUFY is one of the most advanced Australian curriculums and on par with modern teaching methods.
This system is ‘student centred’ rather than ‘teacher centered’ which is, unfortunately, the system that makes up the A/Levels. It is a programme that focuses on the process rather than the product. Each day in the programme is a new learning experience which enhances the knowledge, skills and creativity of students. Just because it’s a one year programme it is not inferior to the two year A/Level programme” says Mr. M. Naufaloon, Academic Head of the MUFY program at ANC.
Elaborating further, Mr. Naufaloon said “a key focus of MUFY is on what the student learns as against the traditional A/Level focus on final examination. The continuous assessment process provides this evaluation and contributes to 50% of the final mark. Students are evaluated on activities like project work, group studies, case studies, field trips, research work etc. which assist them to develop their own learning skills, training them to do such independent work in university. The universities, too, expect students to do their own learning, but, unfortunately, A/Levels hardly provides that training, it is more theoretical and exam oriented”
Commenting of this Semesters results he added ‘’I am more than happy to announce that our students have performed extremely well this semester. Our overall pass rate was a remarkable 86.5% where Part A pass rates amounted to 79% and Part B subjects made a pass rate of 94%’’.
Monash College students in Sri Lanka are supported by a highly motivated and experienced lecturers of which 70% are PhD qualified they are all approachable and eager to support and provide additional attention as needed.
