Dessert Corner in Ratmalana, is a just 3 year old home grown concept, born, bread and nurtured in the back yard kitchen of a young, energetic and an enterprising house wife.
From very small beginnings, dessert making and cake baking have grown into great heights during the past 3 years. New products, more tastes, use of highest quality raw materials and state of the art techniques, have all helped in introducing a wider variety and a better taste to all the desserts made at Dessert Corner.
Today, Dessert Corner is well known amongst a wide range of clientele, not only as a high quality specialty dessert maker, but also as an enterprise, which makes its products available to its loyal customers, with least amount of inconvenience. The home delivery service and the dessert shop at a prime location in Mount Lavinia, (at the Mount City, Mount Lavinia), is a great source of convenience to the dessert loving public.
Nadika Fernando, the founder / proprietor, always loved cake and dessert making, from a very young age. She volunteered to make the birthday cake, the anniversary cake or the dessert for any special occasion for her friends, relations and neighbours. Incidentally, it was they who encouraged her or rather, some what forced her, to get into dessert and cake making.
She wouldn’t even have dreamt at the beginning that it would grow and expand into a business of such magnitude so fast.
Nadeeka, the mother of two kids, together with her husband, Nirosh, explained the secret behind the instant sweet success of their unique venture, which is three years old now.
‘Within a few months of commencement of operations, we were able to establish a high end clientele, which includes a host of well known personalities in business, in various professions and even some well known names in food and beverage trade . For us spending much on advertising was not necessary, since most of our satisfied customers do tell others, including their friends and relations about the quality and the specialty of our desserts’.
‘Orders have to be placed at least one day before, since we do not make any item in advance other than for confirmed orders. We undertake delivery to the customer door step with in a limited area’.
At present, Dessert Corner produces a host of popular and delicious desserts including its signature dessert, the strawberry cheese cake, the chocolate mousse, pineapple braveries, chocolate soufflé, black forest gateaux , chocolate brownies and biscuit pudding. These are in addition to the more commonly known varieties, such as caramel, Watalappan and jelly fruit trifle.
The more recent introductions include Tiramisus, Chocolate Crunch, Peach Cheese cake and Blueberry cheese cake.
