The Advanced Construction Training Academy or more popularly known as ACTA was established as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) organization. For the establishment of this training centre funds were provided by the Government of Sri Lanka and the Republic of France through AFD and also the National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL). ACTA is the training arm of the National Construction Association of Sri Lanka (NCASL), with a large membership.

ACTA also has received the ISO-9001-2008 IWA - 2 Quality Certificate for training delivery from the Sri Lanka Standards Institution.
The latest achievement of ACTA is that, it has been accredited by Edexcel - UK to conduct a course in Quantity Surveying to offer HND BTEC qualifications. Edexcel-UK (Education excellence) is the largest certificate awarding body in the world which has affiliated higher education institutes in more than 100 countries around the world. ACTA commenced conducting full time and short term training programs in the year 2007. All the full time training programs conducted by ACTA are based on National Competency Standards. All the programs conducted by ACTA have been developed by curriculum development specialist in consultation with industry experts to fulfill industry needs. The program contents are being regularly revised and updated.
In order to maintain the quality of training programs conducted by ACTA, the institute has a highly qualified and experienced academic staff. During this very short period ACTA has been able to gain recognition locally and from some prestigious foreign universities which no other institution has been able to achieve up to now.
Recently ACTA has entered into an agreement with the National Apprentice & Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) through which ACTA has been delegated with the authority to conduct assessments for uncertified workers in the construction industry. It will help them to obtain recognized qualifications (NVQ) through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This method of certification will pave the way for a large number of uncertified workers in the construction industry to seek foreign employment and also make them eligible for higher salaries locally, and thereby increase productivity.
ACTA is also having discussions with some foreign Universities to explore the possibility of conducting degree programs in Quantity Surveying locally. If things go as planned, ACTA, in the near future, will achieve the status of a degree awarding institute, which is our ultimate goal.w |
