Around the globe: ‘Cafe De World’ at World Trade Center

‘Café De World’, the food court at the twin World Trade Centre towers in Colombo, is now operating for a couple of months. The food court ‘Cafe De World’ (CDW) is serving a variety of foods with multiple cuisines ranging from Sri Lankan, Indian Chinese, Thai and Continental with a choice between set menus as well as a la carte.

Located in the central business district in Fort, CDW is the latest addition to the multifaceted twin towers with multiple F&B outlets. The local and international banks, airlines and travel operators, telecommunication providers and on-site parking on nine levels making CDW a one-stop-shop for all its tenants and visitors alike.

The food court will further enhance the offerings at the best business address in Sri Lanka that houses over 200 companies and 10,000 employees while catering to over 5,000 visitors on a daily basis.

‘We had a small café for many years and most of the WTC office dwellers have to depend on this limited resources café for their breakfast, lunch and for dinner. Many have opted to go out for their cuisine. But the long felt need is now catered to and we are capable of entertaining 50 to 60 pax at one sitting now’ said Kamantha Perera , the Manager of the ‘Café De World’.

The food court is now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday through Friday and for breakfast and lunch on Saturdays. A salad bar and a choice of sandwiches, cakes and other baked goods are also on offer with a wide range of beverages and desserts.

‘Anarkali salad’, ‘Mango papaya Beef salad’, ‘Russian Egg salad’, ‘Tuna salad’, ‘World Drop Salad’ ‘Bengali salad’ and Maha Raja Salad are some of the popular salads in the menu. Deep frying (fish & chips, chicken cordon blue, baked crabs and Crumb fried fish) and Pastas (Spaghetti bolognaise, Spaghetti Colbonara and veg Spaghetti) are popular during the evening and diner.

‘Chinese set menu (fried rice with fried fish, chicken prawns and beef) are quite popular during lunch apart from their Sri Lankan favourites’ Kamantha said. Sri Lankan breakfast too is the most popular morning choice. Milk Rice, hoppers, strings, pol pittu, roti with dhal curry chicken or fish curry, Sri Lankan omelet and noodles are some of the top attractions.

Apart from that, American breakfast, Continental breakfast and cereals too are available at the CDW.

Western set menu for lunch is includes roast chicken, batter fried fillet fish, sea food platter, grilled minced mutton kebabs, beef minute steaks roast lamb in red wine and grilled fish.

Parata, kottu, string hoppers, hoppers, dosai and wadai are some of the popular evening delights.
‘Ice cream sundries and deserts too are fast moving during lunch and dinner. Apart from office crowds, families with kids are now patronizing this café after hours. CDW is now catching up with visitors to Gall Face green, weekend holiday mood revellers and young hangouts’ said Manager Perera.
