‘Don’t Funk With Me’, the latest album to hit the Aussie charts, by Sri Lankan born Alston Koch was released last week in Australia.
Now a naturalized Australian, Alston Koch is a living, music legend in Asia - one of the very few Asian vocalists to have English language hits across Asia.
The single, off the album, ‘Soul Sounds’ with a club mix by UK’s legendary DJs David Ford and Ian Curnow and a special ‘Euro Mix’ by ‘The Beat Freeks’ is now a hit on all major Aussie radio stations and on the Australian Billboard.
Alston Koch, still the only Sri Lankan born artiste to have his album for sale in the professional marketplace in Australia such as JB Hifi, SANITY etc is now on the famous SONY label for the first time having been on BMG/RCA in the past.
Alston’s chart success began in the 70’s with his group ‘Dark Tan’ being credited with bringing disco to Australia. Their hit “Disco Lady” went gold at the peak of the ‘Countdown-era’, 1977. Alston signed on with BMG/RCA in 1990 as a solo artiste, touring the globe and enjoyed further hits with the dance duo ‘Switch’.
In recent years, Alston has been the ‘Tourism and Cultural Ambassador’ for Sri Lanka while creating many unique projects including the commemorative single for cricket legend Muthiah Muralidaran and the theme song for the 2011 Cricket World Cup. Alston was introduced to World MW audience by Alicia Keys as ‘a legend and superstar’ and in 2010 was inducted into the Hard Rock Café’s Hall of Fame.
‘Don’t Funk With Me’ is Alston’s new release and is full of irresistible, dance floor grooves. With brilliant remixes by acclaimed DJ5, this will be a modern club classic. Released by Lifestyle/Sony Music, the first single to clubs and radio is ‘Soul Sounds’ and will be followed by ‘Don’t Know Why”.
