Funday Times - A Poem for the week

A market

By Anuk Wijeratne, Trinity College, Kandy

Sun-burnt sellers yell,
“Come and buy!”
At all the people passing by,
They’ve got juicy fruits and veggies,
But the balloon seller
catches my eye.

He is hidden behind lovely balloons,
Colourful and so big,
A gypsy’s cheeky monkey,
Amuses tired people.

I hate the butcher’s meaty shop,
And the stinky fish stall,
But the ice-cream seller and his chilly ices,
Is what I love most of all.

With mouth-watering
morsels and fizzy drinks,
The market is as good as a mall,
Fun stuff and trinkets and toys galore,
I wish I could buy them all!.
