A dream I had

By Hasna Muthaliff (Grade 6), Lyceum Int. School, Nugegoda

It was a bright sunny morning. My parents decided to go on a safari in the jungle, with my cousins and family. I was very excited. My cousins and I brought our favourite snacks crunches.

While we were travelling, our jeep stopped near Baga Waga’s house. My aunts, uncles and my parents were panicking because Baga Waga was a witch and of what she would do to us children!

My parents told us to walk, but as we tried to leave this spooky place a long wall grew and blocked our way. We were terrified! It was dark and we were stuck in this horrid place! We laid a mat and everyone slept except me. Suddenly I heard an unusual noise from Baga Waga’s house. I peeped in her window.
What I saw made me want to scream but I couldn’t scream!

Baga Waga was trying to eat my best cousin! How dare she do this cruel thing! I screamed and screamed. Behind me I felt someone touch me. I opened my eyes slowly and saw my parents who were very worried. I then realised it was a dream. My parents then said to get ready to go on the safari that we planned last week. That made my heart pump blood faster! I ran out of the room in fear.

My hobby

By Sarah Zavahir (12 years), St. Paul’s Girls School, Milagiriya

My hobby is collecting stamps. I have two albums, one for local stamps and the other for foreign ones. I get stamps from my parents, aunts, uncles and friends. Stamps are in different colours. In the class
I exchange stamps with my friends.

I paste them in my album very carefully. Many people collect stamps from all over the world. We can learn about different places, people, animals and birds of the world. It is a very interesting hobby.
I like my hobby very much.

Let us protect our public property

By Dinuka Matharaarachchi (Grade 8), Royal Institute Int. School, Nugegoda

The property we use can be classified as public property and private property. Public property can be used by everyone in the society but private property belongs to only one person or to a number of people.
Today public property is being destroyed rapidly. Some people care only about their own property but, we all have the right to use public property without any obstruction and we must know to protect them also.

Schools, temples, hospitals, buses and trains can be identified as public property. When we use public property we should know how to use them without damaging them. In school, we have to protect our chairs, tables and other things in the classroom.

Public property belongs to us as well as to the next generation of people in our country. Therefore we should keep in mind to protect them. Today we can see some elders and children destroy public property. If we destroy public property, the government will collect taxes from all of us to replace or repair this property.

We must educate the people about the importance of protecting public property. Elders should advise children to protect public property. It is our duty to protect public property like our own property for the next generation.
