Madawa Nimesh along with Thenuka Dhananjaya and Kavindu Ashan guided Royal Panadura to an easy innings and 135 runs win over traditional rivals St. John’s Panadura in their 20th ‘Battle of the Greens’ at the Royal Esplanade yesterday.
Madawa who was on 143 on the first day added another ten runs to remain unbeaten on 153 helping his side who resumed from their overnight score of 254 for 6, to declare their innings with the score on 271 for 6. Madawa’s run a ball knock included 25 boundaries.
The second day’s play got off to a late start due to the wet outfield from overnight rain. The opening day’s play saw the pace and spin attacks of Thenuka Dhananjaya and Kavindu Ashan wreck the Johnian batting.
* Today the two sides will clash in their 10th limited over encounter at the same venue. Royal Panadura lead the tally with five wins to the two by St. John’s with two ending in ‘no decisions’.
