St. Thomas’ Matara fought back against traditional rivals St. Servatius Matara in their 112th ‘Battle of the Blues’ big match at Matara when play ended on day two of the three day game.The Thomian bowlers Jayanga de Silva and Hashan Vimarashana shared six wickets between them to restrict St. Seravtius to 149.
The opening day’s play saw the Thomians taking first lease of the wicket and being bogged down as they too struggled for runs. They were reeling at 57 for 6 before being propelled by a 121 runs stand for the seventh wicket between Ashan Ranasinghe and Hashan Vimarshana.
The partnership helped them end day one on 180 for 7. Resuming on that score on the second day they was able to add only another 14 runs before being bowled out for 194. Hashan made a top score of 76 while skipper Ashan made 57. The match will be continued today.
