Sri Lanka's first food certification firm launched

A MoU has been signed between Ind-Expo Certification Ltd and Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) launching Sri Lanka's first food certification firm.

Ind-Expo Certification Ltd, a non-profit private firm specially formed for food certification in the country, will supervise local food quality using standards administered by the Chartered Institute of Environment Health (CIEH) of UK, according to a media statement issued by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The programme is funded by UNIDO Colombo office's which is under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce through a $ 1.33 million grant from the Norwegian government.

The signing of the agreement was witnessed by Dr. Taizo Nishikawa, Deputy Director-General of UNIDO during a visit to Colombo last week. The firm is a collaboration the between the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) and the National Chamber of Exporters (NCE) supported by UNIDO.
