Govt-TNA deadlock remains despite Indian plea

By Chris Kamalendran

The visiting Indian Parliamentary delegation failed to break the deadlock between the Government and the Tamil National Alliance to resume talks between the two sides. Both the government and the TNA yesterday reiterated their previous positions which led to the breakdown of the talks in December last year.

Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva who led the Government delegation at the talks said the TNA would have to first nominate MPs to the proposed Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to find a political settlement to the ethnic issue.

“We can’t force the TNA to nominate anyone. There is little purpose in the TNA going to foreign countries and trying to bring pressure on us. We have to find our own solution, but not under pressure from other countries.
