Colombo's ever growing eyesore

Story and pics by Nilan Maligaspe

Colombo's walls are full of graffiti, even the walls of schools and private residences have not been spared. From names to insults and boyish scribbles using spray paint, the graffiti pose a growing menace to efforts to beautify the city.

Frequently school authorities and residents have no alternative but to re-paint vandalized walls at their own cost. Commenting on this growing menace, police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said "police will take legal action against the culprits, even if they were teenagers". He added culprits would be charged both for damaging public and private property as well as for loitering.
