AOD (Academy of Design) - Sri Lanka’s international design campus, works closely with local and international design industries. This has not only allowed AOD to build an envious industry network, but has also allowed AOD students to get working experience even before they graduate.
Principal Karen MacLeod, British design connoisseur who now heads AOD through her 25 year experience in the global design sphere, says student-industry collaborative projects are a vital part of AOD’s education. “The world cannot make use of designers who work within a bubble – they need to be professionals, who use creativity to address social needs with a good sense of practicality. So, I cannot stress how important it is for design students to work with industries while studying; it is what makes their work socially relevant and well grounded”.
AOD has championed several design-industry collaborative projects that have delivered astounding results. From designing uniforms for rural farmers, textile design using discarded thread, festival ambient designing to providing corporate campaign solutions, AOD students have stocked valuable work experience under their belts before graduating.Principal of AOD, Karen continued; “Our students have worked with a range of industries and organizations likeTextured Jersey, Coats Thread, MAS Linea Aqua, Dialog etc. over the years.
This has helped them become better designers and also made it easier for us to link them with very good employment prospects after graduating. This year again we are commencing on a range of projects involving lingerie design, retail space design, hospitality uniform design and corporate identity design/advertising with several reputed organizations. We hope to share the outcomes of these with the rest of Sri Lanka very soon.”
Armed with this vision and the internationally reputed UK design degree education they offer, AOD is now enrolling for their 2013 degree programmes in the fields of Fashion, Interior and Graphic Design.
