After nine years of journey covering most parts of Sri Lanka, ‘Janakaraliya’, country’s premier mobile theatre project goes down south, Galle for more than one and half months of theatre and drama.
Started on May 8, the mobile theatre showcases a variety of stage plays including those that bagged many awards at national festivals, till June 24.
Based at Dangedara Jayawardana Maha Vidyala grounds, ‘Payanihal’ directed by Ronika Chamali and Selvaraj Leelawathi and ‘Parasthawa’ directed by Nishantha Kularatne and Ajanthan Shanthakumar based on Anton Chekov’s play ‘Proposal’ will be staged at 6.30 pm on May 13.
Parakrama Niriella’s ‘Charandas’ which won 9 awards at State Drama Festival will be staged at 9.30 am and 6.30 pm on May 14 and 17 and at 6.30 pm on May 20. The children’s plays ‘Danduwamath Naraka Nehe’ and ‘Dewlowa Gamana’ will be staged on May 15 at 9.30 am and 6.30 pm. The award winning ‘Andura Saha Eliya’, ‘Taham’-Tamil play made and based on Nalapana Jathaka story and three other joint creative production of Janakaraliya will also be staged on the same day.
On May 18, Parakrama Niriella’s award winning play ‘Sekkuwa’ will be staged at 9.30 am and 6.30 pm while ‘Metikaraththaya’ by Niriella will be staged on May 19 at 6.30 pm. Greek play written by Eiskilus “Eumanaides” directed by Ranasinhe Adikari will be performed as an invited drama at 9.30 am and 6.30 pm on May 24.
