Top Olympic official visiting Sri Lanka

Sheikh Ahmad Al-Sabah, a member of the Kuwaiti Royal Family and one of the most powerful personalities in the global sporting world is visiting Sri Lanka this week. He will arrive on his private Jet on Wednesday and will call on the Sri Lankan President to discuss matters of mutual interest, tourism officials said.

Sheikh Al-Sabah is the President of Olympic Council of Asia since 1991, member of the International Olympic Committee and Presidency of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) which has a membership of over 200 National Olympic Committees.

Official said his visit is linked to an announcement of an important sporting event in Sri Lanka in the coming years, following a meeting and presentation by the Chief of Sri Lankan National Olympic Committee Hemasiri Fernando and Director General of Tourism and convention Bureau Vipula Wanigasekera in last week in Kuwait.
