High school students with a passion for photography are invited to submit entries for The Pixel Prize, a photography competition run by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Australian Catholic University (ACU).
Now in its fourth year, The Pixel Prize is not only reaching budding young photographers from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in Australia but has also expanded to Mauritius and in 2012, Sri Lanka.
Participants are invited to submit up to three photographs relating to the theme ‘Culture’, either as single images or as a suite of three images that reflect the idea of culture.
Finalist entries from Australia are exhibited in the university’s art galleries on the Brisbane, Strathfield and Melbourne campus. Participants, family and friends are invited to a gallery opening and awards night for the prize giving ceremony. In Sri Lanka, a prize giving presentation is planned for September. The Schools may wish to have the winning photographs exhibited locally.
The Pixel Prize encourages students to represent ideas about the world through photography and have their work exhibited in a public space. Professor Gail Crossley, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, said the competition reflects the use of photography as a means of expressing thoughts, feelings and opinions through a vastly dynamic and artistic medium.
Entries close on Wednesday 31 August 2012. Visit www.thepixelprize.com.au for further details about the competition.
