Marking yet another milestone in transnational education in Sri Lanka, the WCMT Campus is commencing its full-time BTEC HND programme in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering on June 25 and its part-time courses on June 30. The two year vocational BTEC HND is being offered by the WCMT Campus and will lead to a topup engineering degree from the University of Bolton, United Kingdom.
The University of Bolton pioneers in transnational education and counts over 13 years of excellence in taking British education beyond shores to students worldwide. The university has been highly recommended at audits conducted by the well acclaimed Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) of the United Kingdom for its “responsiveness and support to its international partners” through ‘Flying Faculty’, a concept which facilitates face to face lectures in partner countries for every module. The university has campuses in Bolton and United Arab Emirates, offers virtual learning environment and has one of the biggest collections of eBooks and eJournals in the United Kingdom.
The WCMT Campus is a BOI approved venture and a subsidiary of the KES group of institutions, a global education group promoting transnational education between multi continents. WCMT Campus is the Sri Lankan Academic Centre of the University of Bolton which helps Sri Lankan students to pursue British education at a fraction of the original costs.
Engineering programmes at WCMT cover a wide range of courses and provide seamless progression from HND to top-up engineering degrees. All the Engineering courses at WCMT Campus are designed to meet the academic requirements which lead to the Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. The HND in Civil Engineering comprises modules such as structural and soil mechanics, surveying and geology and project planning. The HND in Electrical Engineering covers the key areas of power electronics, power systems and mechatronics whilst the HND in Mechanical Engineering contains modules such as mechanics, thermodynamics, programming logic controllers and mechatronics.
Students of WCMT Campus are offered modern, dedicated engineering laboratories which are equipped with industry-standard engineering design and analysis software. All three courses will expose students to a six month internship at the end of the 18 month study period where students will have the opportunity of applying their skills acquired at the campus to multiple capacities at various organizations.
Engineering students of the WCMT campus will be exposed to ample assignments and sit for examinations set to British standards at the end of every module. The distinction certificates upon course completion will be presented by Edexcel, the world’s largest awarding body accrediting over four million students every year in more than 112 countries. WCMT Campus has also designed affordable payment plans to facilitate bi-annual and monthly instalments for its students so their finances can be planned accordingly.
Both local and international lecturers at the WCMT Campus are committed to enhancing skills of students by devising modern teaching techniques and also provide students with up-to-date course material. The campus is also equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, sophisticated laboratories, library facilities and Wi-Fi coverage all of which facilitate up to date learning of students and successful pass rates.
